Handcrafted wood & leather goods

Plane and Boring

Old Traditions for New Generations

In a world of mass production most of the objects we interact with every day have been identically produced millions of times over in factories thousands of miles away. The industrial revolution and big box stores have mostly done away with the local crafts and craftsmanship. We are living more and more in a digital world we can see and compare ourselves to, but never touch or physically inhabit.

Our mass market digital world is what Plane & Boring proudly stands in counterpoint to: Objects of wood and leather that are begging to be reached out and touched. Plane & Boring furniture is a tactile sensory experience; feeling the woodgrains and smelling the leather, hearing the creak as a chair or stool comfortably takes your weight.

As the craftsman I am ever a student: Learning and evolving my trade with each piece that I create. Every product is unique with slight variations in grain or material or assembly. What is standard among my work is the enduring quality of the pieces. I’ve chosen, handled, and shaped each piece and the materials that go into all of my items. None of them contain plastics or synthetic materials. All of it is digestible back into the ecosystems from whence it came. Wood, basic metals, leather, natural oils and finish. The traditional methods my items are constructed with ensure they will be as long lived as the antiques that are still getting valuable use hundreds of years later.

It’s nothing fancy. It’s Plane & Boring
